Nationals - a recap

sorry I'm late with this blog.  Busy day today running around downstairs waiting for Kevin to come out.

We ended up in 3rd place behind the powerful team from Illinois and a mere 0.5 points behind our arch-rivals from Mission San Jose with 17 points.  Going in, I had thought that we would get 18.5 points (10.5 points from our top 2 boards and 8 points from the 3rd and 4th boards), and obviously we didn't quite meet expectations.  In order to meet expectations, we had to have players play above their heads, and, well, as it turned out, no one did.   Also, it didn't help that 2 5th graders who transferred out this year who would have been our 4th boards wound up getting 5.0 and 4.5 points, respectively in the K-5 division, playing for other schools. It was a frustrating day because not only was 2nd place there for the taking, but first place as well, as the Illinois team did not have a particularly good tournament.

Final scores (out of a possible 7.0):
Kevin 5.0 (finished in a tie for 11th place, was the highest 5.0 player)
Michael 5.0 (finished in a tie for 11th place, gets the 15th place trophy)
Sameer 3.5
Sharon 3.5
Ishas 3.5
Calvin 3.0
Serafina 3.0

Also, Louis finished with 3.0 in K-1, Atri with 4.0 in K5U900, and Angela with 5.0 in K6U1000.
