FIRST:  Let me thank you for attending the Weibel Fall Chess Quads and Grand Prix.  I hope you and your family enjoyed your experience.
SECOND: Let me apologize for the delay in getting the results posted with your child’s new U.S. Chess Federation rating.  My wonderful, dedicated and efficient volunteer, Prakash Narayan, who posts the results to the USCF website, met with a work related crisis this week.  The results are now posted.  You can view the results, ratings, photos, winner of the IM Emory Tate best game award and the winners of the Grand Prix from the links at http://www.CalNorthYouthChess.org/photographs.html  I do suggest you use the link there for your child’s rating as it takes you directly to the most current rating. If you go to your child’s name at the USCF site you will likely see a month old rating.

AND, SUNDAY AT THE CALCHESS STATE GRADE LEVELS PROVES TO BE EVEN BETTER THAN SATURDAY

The Weibel Elementary School Chess Team had a good day yesterday, December 5, 2015 at the CalChess State Grade Level Championships as I posted. Today, Sunday, December 6, 2015, the Team had a great day. We won three School Team sections out of three and had four State Champions crowned. The battle over who was the best Team in the tournament raged for two days with Weibel finally topping Mission San Jose Elementary in the Fifth and Sixth grades and tying with them in Fourth Grade. Oliver Wu went undefeated in the Fifth Grade to be crowned the individual State Champion. In the Sixth Grade Weibel’s Rithwik Narendra, Stanley Ko and Aaron Lee tied for First Place. All four of today’s State Champions along with our two winners from yesterday will be entered in the Weibel Chess Hall of Fame.

 Over the last few years a cloud has hung over the Weibel Chess Team. As we went into the last round on top of the team scores or just a half point or point away from first we hadn't been able to finish and we ended up in second or third place. Our teams years ago seldom had this problem. Most of the time they came through at the end which helps explain why we remained for so many years as the number one team in Northern California. I gave a lot of thought into how to change this pattern and my strategy seems to have worked. I hope we can restore our reputation as numero uno. The photo shows my final strategy-- the Weibel Chess Team psyching-up for the last round.

 

BREAKING NEWS: WEIBEL'S FIRST GRADE CHESS TEAM ARE CHAMPIONS

As you can see, Weibel's First Grade and Kindergarten Chess Teams came home with a lot of hardware from the CalChess State Grade Level Championships. The Kindergarten Team took home a second place while last year's first place Kindergarten Team won first place in the First Grade division this year. Edward Miu, last year's Kindergarten individual champion shared this year's first grade championship title with his teammate Ekansh Samanta. In the last round they played each other and drew. You can see in the second photo that they enjoyed showing off their strength and chess prowess.

NIKKO LE , SECOIND GRADE, WINS $532.80 AT CHESS TOURNAMENT

This has been a great weekend for Weibel players at the Bay Area Chess run Class Warfare Chess Tournament.  (PS: I have problems with this name.) In a previous e-mail I mention the Samanta boys each winning their section in the Kid’s section.  I just learned that Weibel 2nd Grade student Nikko Le took a First place in the Open DEU Section winning $532.80.  I am sure Nikko would have preferred a large trophy but I am sure he accepted the money with just as big a smile. I am also sure that the adults in the section were not smiling.  I think that is the largest sum of money any Weibel student in second grade has ever won. Winning money, at least, means that his parents have less trophies to dust. I hope they don't launder the money.  Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Nikko has moved his USCF rating to 1389.  I look forward to loads of smiles at this weekend’s Grade Level States.
